Marburg 2011: Energy policy change, local elections and 50 years of German-French friendship
Marburg had a promising and exciting year in 2011! One positive example was the University City's change in its energy policy long before the decision of the German Bundestag on the 30th of June 2011 was passed phasing out nuclear power. "In contrast to the national coverage we have a strong proximity to our listeners. We are attuned to the people!" So said Mark Whall, programme director for the BBC in Northampton, to Marburg’s visiting communications officer Ute Schneidewindt, about the philosophy of his radio station. And indeed, as she sat in the production room, Schneidewindt began to understand how the BBC Northampton operates.
