Upstairs and downstairs - with that every visitor to Marburg has earned a bit of rest. After climbing the steps of the Old Town you can relax in the beautiful valley of the Lahn River. A sunny spring or autumn day draws the prettiest sights from the Lahn’s natural setting and lays them out for hiking and relaxing walks:
Kaiser-Wilhelm-Tower/Spiegelslustturm From the Kaiser Wilhelm Tower, the highest point of the town, there is a wonderful view over the town and the countryside surrounding Marburg. In the cosy tower café there are often cultural events to which all are welcome; a visit is well worth while. If you want to marry you can have the ceremony in the tower!
From far away the light-show 'Siebensiebenzwölfnullsieben' (=771207!!) installed on the tower in the Elisabeth year 2007. The 7.7.1207 is celebrated as the birthday of the Holy Elisabeth.

The Planet Teaching Path The world's first planet teaching path also designed for the blind is about 4 miles long and has its start in Marburg-Cappel where on a scale of 1:1000,000,000 the sun is to be found. The path, which follows the river Lahn, has at intervals on the same scale, the various planets. It ends at the railway station.

Lahn Bike Path This Path which includes parts well outside the Marburg region passes directly through the towm and offers residents and visitors alike the posibility to investigate the town and surrounding regions on foot, with a bike or with inline skates. Bike rental in the multi-storey car park. A place to leave your bicycles will be found in the parking area opposite to the stack car park (Oberstadtparkhaus).

The Lahn River, wonderful for its idyllic pedal boat trips and its water sports invites you to linger and explore.
Elisabeth II A fish cutter originally from Lübeck offers not only the people of Marburg, but also our guests pleasant sailing on the Lahn. With a speed of 3 knots (for landlubbers 6 km/h) Elisabeth II travels between Weidenhausen and Afföller weir.
Public tours: (April - October) Saturday, Sunday and holidays 2, 3, 4 and 5pm. Tickets from the "captain" at the starting point.

Boat Rental Am Trojedamm
In good weather boats can be borrowed. It is directly on the river Lahn near to the Weidenhausen Bridge. There is also an open air café. Battery-driven bicycle rental.

Century-old trees in the Old Botanical Gardens on Pilgrimstein and over 12,500 plants from all over the world in the New Botanical Gardens up on the Lahn Mountains, lure you into a realm of sweet daydreams.
The Old Botanical Garden In the middle of the town on the street called 'Pilgrimstein' the charming Old Botanical Garden is to be found. Especially in summer it is used by many residents as a place to enjoy the sun or just to find peace and quiet.

The New Botanical Garden Situated on the Lahn hills, to the east of the town, it has interesting garden architecture and glasshouses with plants from all regions of the world. There is also a café. You can reach the garden either by car or with the bus No. 7.
